To honour the start of the Rugby World Cup (In New Zealand!) today, Alan spent most of his time trying to introduce rugby to the Peruvian kids we’re currently working with. Rugby doesn’t exist within Peru. Volleyball, Basketball and Football are exceedingly popular, but no-one has even heard of our favourite sport. Before we left home, Alan bought three small sized rugby balls to bring along for the children. Their first experience of this “poleta loca” went surprisingly well with the kids squealing in delight each time the ball randomly bounced in a unpredictable direction. Here are my photos from today:

Great photos! That looks like quite a respectable pass between the two girls. I’d love to introduce the kids in Tarapoto to rugby — not sure how they’d take to it, but it would be fun to watch.
Cheers,
Tony.

Yeah, some of the girls really got the hang of it quickly! I would love to have more time here to get them really capable of playing, but unfortunately, we only have the three weeks!
Great pictures I bet the kids are really enjoying themselves.
I love the last photo

Hey It’s great to see what you guys are doing for those kids, also i’m happy to see that you introduced this kids to rugby.
Just a little thing, Rugby do exist in Peru, it’s not popular yet and a lot of people in the country haven’t heard about it, but it’s a sport that is growing fast. There are clubs in Lima, Tacna, Arequipa, Iquitos, Ilo and Trujillo.
My club, Newton-UPC “Flaming Lions”, do have a program that consist in teaching rugby to kids with low economical resourses in La Molina district (Lima). You can contact us http://www.flaminglions.org or peruvian rugby federation http://www.rugbyperu.org for anything you need.
Cheers and thanks for everything you are doing for those kids,
